WEEK 1- TOPIC ONE


Hi there!
My name is Megan and I am currently enrolled in my last term at LBCC. At the end of this term I will have my associates of arts transfer degree. In the fall, I plan to attend OSU Cascades in Bend,Oregon. I will attend the Liberal Studies program there as I work towards my goal of becoming an elementary teacher. Outside of school, I am passionate about working with the community. I enjoy volunteering and attending community events.
I am most interested in learning how media has changed over the years. I am also interested in how this change in the media has impacted us as individuals and the way we perceive the world.

Topic One: Social Media  ABC News, The New York Times, and Donald Trump are three pages that I follow on Twitter. I normally use social media as a chance to connect with friends and family, but I chose to follow these pages for a few reasons. I chose to follow ABC News and The New York Times, due to the fact these organizations are my main sources of information when it comes to the news. I chose to follow Donald Trump simply because he is the president of the United States, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to see what he is posting. Week 9 Topic 2- Campus Radio

I have never been a huge fan of radio stations or listening to the radio, so I tried to think about starting a station from an unbiased perspective. I conducted some research to help me decide whether or not launching a radio station seemed feasible. My first concern was if the people at LBCC would be interested in listening to this radio station. I found that, according to News Generation , more than 71.6 million Millennials, people born between 1980 and 1996, use radio each month and 95% of them are reached monthly by radio. Due to the fact most college age students are millennials, I think that it would be possible to start a radio station, as the audience is clearly reached through radio.   My second concern was how they would go about starting it. WikiLeaks

I am going to be honest here, I wasn't really aware of what WikiLeaks was before this assignment. After watching the TED talk and conducting more research, I started to think about how useful WikiLeaks is. WikiLeaks is useful for two reasons: it allows people to post anonymously and it allows people to access significant information. I found this organization to be very interesting as I am not usually one to enjoy watching the news  (I may have stated this in previous blogs). The leaks that this site provides allows people to learn more about topics that they may have never had a chance to do elsewhere. I support WikiLeaks as it provides society with information that we should have access to. I am fine with the current freedom of expression/creativity that we see in our society. I believe that the media platforms that we have allows many people to have a voice and express their freedom of speech.
